The position requires technical knowledge of PeopleSoft Finance Management and/or PeopleSoft Human Capital Management. The incumbent is expected to work closely with end users and business stakeholders and be able to drive projects independently with minimal supervision/direction. In addition, the ideal candidate is expected to work on very tight timelines and with competing priorities. These are highly technical positions that provide a wide range of application development related duties and day-to-day technical support. These positions manage system stabilization efforts, system enhancements/upgrades, and integration initiatives for supporting City business processes. In addition, these positions lead change control efforts with City stakeholders and business experts in coordinating system enhancements and configuration requests. These positions will also recommend and/or implement technical solutions to improve and streamline business processes and procedures that support City priorities and initiatives. General Definition:Under general supervision, the Senior Applications Developer performs a variety of professional, technical, and analytical duties involving developing applications for new requirements, troubleshooting issues, and implementing enhancements in PeopleSoft Financials and HR applications. Distinguishing Characteristics:This is an advanced journey-professional classification populated with multiple incumbents. The Senior Applications Developer's work involves advanced concepts in the performance of their duties. The incumbents in this classification may provide oversight to other Applications Developers. The Senior Applications Developer is distinguished from that of the Applications Developer classification by the increased degree of difficulty of the work assignments, the greater level of business and technical knowledge required to perform the tasks and the potential consequences of errors by the incumbent. The work of this classification is distinguished from that of the Principal Applications Developer classification in that the latter classification is the highest-level technical expert. Supervision Received and Exercised:General supervision is provided by an Information Technology Supervisor or other high-level manager. The Senior Applications Developer does not supervise. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Responsible for analyzing, developing new requirements and troubleshooting issues in PeopleSoft Financials and HR applications Develops new reports in XML Publisher, SQR, PeopleSoft Query Develops and automates PeopleSoft interfaces with third party systemsMonitors and troubleshoots nightly batch processesTroubleshoot complex technical problems while supporting day-to-day operationsApplies analytical and advanced design techniques in developing new programs or systems or modifying existing onesDevelops systems processes to eliminate redundant and manual business processes as necessaryCodes and/or tests programs and resolve related problems in large, complex systems.Provides technical guidance to lower-level IT personnel and contractors through training, mentoring, and coaching.Maintain professional working relationships with a variety of City staff at all levels.Communicate effectively orally and in written format in a variety of situations and formats.Performs other or related duties as assigned. TYPICAL DUTIES- Plans and manages information technology related projects involving critical applications, large systems and sophisticated processes.- Provides team leadership, guidance, business, and technical expertise on assigned projects involving citywide computer systems.- Designs and/or creates database structures, data migration/conversion techniques for system(s) conversions or upgrades.- Monitors and tunes databases in order to obtain optimum performance.- Applies analytical and advanced design techniques in developing new programs or systems or modifying existing ones.- Codes and/or tests programs and resolve related problems in large, complex systems.- Provides technical guidance to lower-level IT personnel and contractors through training, mentoring, and coaching.- Performs other or related duties as assigned.
